Dear Mr. Groobert,

I am writing as the director of development for The Media School at Indiana University with an exciting opportunity that I believe aligns with your passion for philanthropy, sustainability, and supporting education.

As a prominent figure in the public relations field who has made a significant impact on both Indianapolis and higher education, your involvement with the “Dave Groobert Public Relations Scholarship” initiative would be transformative.

This opportunity aims to sponsor students who do not have the financial means to attend Indiana University. Other requirements include having at least a 3.5 GPA in high school and planning on concentrating in public relations as the focus of a BAJ degree. Your support for this scholarship is not only valuable, but also highly impactful:

  • Investing in Future Leaders: Your generous donation of $50,000 will be entrusted to the IU Foundation, ensuring that your contribution remains impactful for years to come. Starting in 2024, each year five deserving students will receive partial scholarships from interest on your investment that will enable them to pursue their dreams in the public relations field. This funding will directly empower selected students to excel academically and professionally;

  • Promoting Education and Sustainability: Your commitment to philanthropy, particularly in sustainability and environmental causes, aligns with the values of The Media School. IU’s Climate Action Planning Committee holds a series of plans to reduce the impact of greenhouse gas emissions from various buildings, such as Franklin Hall, the center for The Media School. The building also displays a large skylight to flood the inside with natural lighting, as well as other features that promote sustainability. This investment will allow you to expand your philanthropic endeavors outside of Indianapolis, and further the impact you have on the public relations industry;

  • Enhancing Your Legacy: This scholarship will proudly hold your name and is the perfect way to leave a legacy. For generations to come, students attending IU will recognize the “Dave Groobert Public Relations Scholarship” as a symbol of opportunity and inspiration. Moreover, you will have the privilege of getting a tour of Franklin Hall from our new dean, David Tolchinsky, as well as getting to meet the annual scholarship recipients and promoting this endeavor on your website as marketing material.

I understand that you have other philanthropic commitments, but I believe that your association with The Media School will be an enriching and impactful partnership. Your agency's ties to Indiana University, through both alumni and internships, emphasizes your commitment to fostering industry talent within our community.

Additionally, I have included some other background information, including a one-page overview of The Media School, a one-page overview of the public relations concentration, and a brochure about Franklin Hall. I will call you next week to follow up with this opportunity, but in the meantime, please feel free to reach out at 740-274-0304 with any questions or thoughts you may have.

Sincerely,

Hayden Rivard
