Hayden Rivard
Hello, and thank you all for being here today. My name is Hayden Rivard, and I'm here to share a story of compassion, hope, and to extend an invitation that holds the power to change both human and animal lives.
RedRover is a non-profit founded and located in Sacramento that's driven to save and help our planet's most vulnerable beings - the animals we get to call our pets. Their mission is simple, but profound in the sense that they strengthen the bond between people and animals through financial assistance, empathy education, emergency sheltering, and in many more ways.
One of RedRover's many remarkable initiatives is their Domestic Violence Safe Housing program. This program provides emergency shelter and care for the pets of domestic violence survivors. It allows these individuals to escape their abusive situations, without leaving their beloved companions behind. This is especially important, as many survivors will not even consider leaving abusive situations if there's no place for their pet to go.
They also offer a relief program, which is very powerful for the health of our pets, and for their owners. Through funding and volunteers, RedRover provides emergency veterinary services, and often will provide grants to those who otherwise may not be able to afford to help their pets.
RedRover doesn't just provide funds for boarding and vet bills though, they provide peace of mind and light for those going through dark times.
Outside of directly helping people and their pets, RedRover Readers is another program that the nonprofit has. This program has taught over 120,000 children to be compassionate to animals through storytelling and discussion. This initiative has sparked change early on by teaching children that animals need to be cared for, so they can care for us back.
This brings me to the fact that RedRover is not just a charity; it's a force for good that changes lives in times of crisis and aims to prevent issues as well. When disaster strikes, when families are struggling to care for their pets, or when animals are in desperate need of shelter, RedRover is there, bringing hope to families and animals who need it.
